About Chiropractic
Chiropractic looks to address what is arguably the most important system of the body: the nervous system.
The nervous system starts in the brain, the control center. The nervous system extends out of the skull, down the spinal canal as the spinal cord. The spinal cord and brain are protected by bone(skull and vertebrae) because it is vitally important. The spinal cord then branches into continuously smaller nerves that extend throughout the body. These nerves reach every organ system, tissue and cell in the body. When your nervous system is functioning at its peak, your body will function and heal better.
Clear communication in the body is a major key to better health.

Unfortunately, there are things that interfere in this communication...

Misalignment of the spine
Our bodies are designed to be aligned in a way that keeps pressure off of the nervous system and allows our bodies to function without pain and discomfort. When the alignment is off, the nervous system can be put under tension, causing interference in the communication between the brain and the body via the nervous system. This interference can lead to pain and discomfort but more importantly, hinder our function.

The functions of our organ systems are affected when our alignment is off. This is because good alignment creates space inside the body for our organs and tissues to function well. For example, when your 1st rib is misaligned forward, the rib cage drops; this causes slight compression on the heart; making it work a little bit harder to pump blood. Another example is when we 'slouch' forward our spinal chord is being pulled on causing interference in communication from brain to body. There are many other ways the body is negatively affected by misalignment of the spine including muscle tension, low back pain, headaches, dizziness, and the list goes on. Chiropractors are trained to locate and adjust the misalignments.

Do all misalignments NEED to be adjusted?
The short answer is: NO. The body is intelligently designed in such a way that it can self-correct. Our bodies were designed to heal; that is why you don't have to think about how to heal a cut, for example. BUT, there are positions in which our bones can be misaligned which the body is unable to correct. In chiropractic we use the word 'subluxation' to describe the bone that needs to be adjusted. Research has shown that when a spinal bone(vertebra) misaligns forward the body cannot correct it because there are no muscles pulling the bone backward. The body then misaligns other bones in a direction it CAN self-correct in order to compensate for the bone that has moved forward. The body does this in order to maintain stability, otherwise it would fall over. So what we do in our office is locate the bones that are misaligned in a direction the body CANNOT self-correct and adjust them. This then allows the body to re-align the bones which it CAN self-correct. We do this via Advanced BioStructural Correction(ABC) technique.
What technique do we use?

Advanced Biostructural Correction (ABC)

This technique checks and adjusts the bones that have moved forward, as well as release meningeal adhesions/scar tissue.

The forward bones were discussed above.
There are layers of connective tissue around the spinal cord called the meninges. Traumas can cause these tissues to get 'stuck' or adhere to one another and over time turn into scar tissue. This is important because these tissues connect directly to the spinal cord and can pull on the nerves, causing discomfort, tingling or pain elsewhere in the body. The ABC technique incorporates specific stretches to release the meninges when needed.

As the forward bones are adjusted back into their proper alignment and the meninges are released, good posture returns.
Good posture helps: decrease pain, improve stability, decrease muscle tension, improve muscle performance, decrease wear and tear on the joints, optimize organ function and much more!
